Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG)

In 2005 the Edward Byrne Memorial State and the Local Law Enforcement Formula Grant were combined into the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG), which is awarded through the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureaus of Justice Assistance.

This program was created by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. The intent of this formula grant program is to provide funds to assist State and local units of government in carrying out specific programs which enhance the criminal justice system, and prevent and decrease crime. The program direction has drawn from the specific focus of drug control and expanded to include violent crimes. Funding is based on State population. This is an ongoing grant program. JAG no longer requires a funding match. The following are amounts Nevada has received in JAG federal funds per year.
